You should also be mindful of the kinds of foods you must stay away from. Most of them are pretty apparent; avoid consuming too much fat by eating lean cuts of meat and avoid junk food since it contains too much calories of little nutritional value. Avoid refined sugars in bread and pasta products and go for healthier whole grain alternatives. Do away with alcoholic beverages whenever possible because it will not help you to shed off the pounds.
Now you are aware of the foods that you must and shouldn't include in your diet. Look at your regular eating habits and come up with a few ways to make your meals more nutritious. If you're having problems with portion size try eating 5 or 6 small meals each day because your stomach will get smaller, meaning you will feel fuller more quickly and therefore ingest less food.
